Nikon have published their corporate management plan as a PDF. It's nothing particularly exciting, but gives us some idea of where Nikon are heading over the next few years. Focus seems to be on finding a new direction and innovating - which is always good to hear!
Skip past the break for an overview of what Nikon's plans are.
The main points (concentrating on the Imaging division) seem to be;
- Expand Nikon's brand with "fun", "innovation", "originality", "reliability" and "high quality".
- Create new businesses in existing and new fields
- Maintain constant growth in spite of fierce competition
- Gain the leading position in existing fields, create new markets through next-generation products and new businesses
- Maintain R&D at 7% of net sales (planned 200 billion yen R&D expenses total)
- Forecast 35% of 19k unit DSLR market by 2013 (current 34% or a 10.8k unit market)
- Forecast 14% of a 130k unit compact camera market by 2013 (current 11% of a 102k unit market)
- Forecast 1,100 billion yen net sales in 2013, operating income of 120 billion yen.
Of course, these are just aims and forecasts - unfortunately we have no actual detail as to how Nikon plan to achieve these.
