The image below is a scan of the yet-to-be-announced D3100 (from Nikon Rumors), animated with a shot of the D3000. It will swap between the D3000 and D3100 every 2 seconds.
There are a few clear differences:
- A slightly more compact body, with a more rounded profile (especially to the right of the lens mount).
- A taller mode dial, with what appears to be an extra switch/lever around it. This is quite possibly for easy access to video shooting (the camera is expected to support a 1080p movie mode).
- No infra-red sensor in the grip (below the red triangle). This camera may not support the ML-L3 remote.
Can you spot anything else? Also, if anyone can send admin@nikonhq.com higher-rez scans of the article, we'd be very grateful.

The Nikon D3100 doesn't have any straps attachments?
The D3100 does have strap lugs - but they are very recessed. See http://www.nikonhq.com/2010/08/nikon-d3100-dslr-launched/
