Finally the P7100 arrives… will it make up for the disappointment that was the P7000? We'll find out shortly, but first things first so let's get right on with the unboxing!
UK boxed version, complete with the usual "Register within 30 days for an extra 12 months guarantee" sticker.
Flipping open the box…
… and spilling the contents from the top section.
Quick start guide, warranty card, etc etc.
Unfortunately the P7100 user guide/reference manual comes on CD, and isn't a paper copy. Shame, Nikon. Oh, and does anyone ever bother with ViewNX 2?
Getting to the interesting bits…
But first the MH-24 charger, battery, USB cable, video/audio cable, and strap. This is a UK model, hence the UK converter for the charger.
All wrapped up nice and snug.
Unpeeling the wrapper, and here she is!
First impressions are good - the P7100 is a classy looking camera, assuming you like them bristling with dials and buttons.
Full frontal - note the new front control dial, which should make using this even better than the P7000 could have been.
Rear view. At first glance not an lot has changed here, apart from the new fancy articulating LCD.
Alternative rear view.
Flipping up the LCD.
The LCD goes fully horizontal...
… and also flips the other way, for those over-the-head shots.
The LCD arm is quite simple, a kind of T shape. Certainly better than no articulating LCD, but perhaps being able to flip it all the way round to the front (stand up, Canon G12) would be useful.
The other side.
Comparing the P7100 to the older P7000. The P7100 is a little more curvy, but the basic design remains the same.
From another angle, most things look the same apart from that prominent new front dial.
Top view, everything looks very familiar.
Round the back, controls are again very familiar - this is a good thing for those moving on from the P7000. The viewfinder rubber is slightly redesigned, the AE-L/AF-L and display buttons have moved, and of course there's that bendy LCD.
The family resemblance is obvious.
A little more top-down action. P7100 on the left, P7000 on the right.
Going solo again, the P7100's lens breaks cover. It's the same fine optic that we saw on the P7000, giving a handy 28-200mm range.
Looking good.
One last beauty shot.
Check back soon for our full impressions of the new camera - including the all important speed and image quality tests.

Great camera. Only problem is the delay in shooting.
